Territorial Co-operation
The new Territorial Co-operation programmes for the period 2007-2013 provide a range of new and exciting new opportunities for the South West to work closely with other regions across Europe.
For the first time, parts of the Region will be eligible to participate in Cross Border Co-operation, under the two new programmes: (i) France (Channel) England Programme (ii) 2 Seas Programme. All of the South West local authorities along the English Channel are included in these two programmes, together with Somerset and Wiltshire (as adjacent areas), with the eligible English area also including parts of the East of England and South East England. On the continental side the eligible areas stretch from Brittany in the far west, up along the Channel coastline to Flanders in Belgium and up into the Netherlands.
The whole of the South West will continue to be part of the Atlantic Area and North West Europe Transnational Co-operation zones. The South West will also have the opportunity to work with regions across Europe through the new Inter-regional Co-operation programmes and the Regions for Economic Change initiative.
