The South West of England Regional Development Agency was established in 1999. Its most important role is to ensure the long-term economic success of the Region. South West businesses are essential to the competitiveness of the region's economy. The SWRDA's key role is to provide the conditions in which businesses can thrive. Some areas have greater social and economic needs than others. In these areas it works hard with other people so that individuals, businesses and communities can take advantage of new opportunities. In these areas it works hard with other people so that individuals, businesses and communities can take advantage of new opportunities. The SWRDA is responsible for providing regional economic leadership, by gathering and sharing intelligence, and promoting the South West both in the UK and abroad, including in Europe. The SWRDA is helping to make the South West more attractive as a place to live and work and do business. All its work is guided by the Regional Economic Strategy 2006-2015
