The Environment Agency is an independent public body that plays a central role in delivering the environmental priorities of central government and the Welsh Assembly Government. The principal aims of the Environment Agency are to protect and improve the environment of England and Wales, and to promote sustainable development. The Agency also has responsibility for protecting communities from the risk of flooding and managing water resources. The South West Regional Office works closely with other regional bodies to develop the right solutions for the local environment. The Office covers Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and most of Wiltshire. Its environmental priorities include flooding, soils and run-off, and waste.
The long-term goals of the Environment Agency are governed by “An Environmental Vision”, the 20-year aspirations published in 2000 and the corporate strategy “Creating a better place 2010-2015”. |
