University of Plymouth to be only UK-based partner in European marine doctoral programme

MARES (MARine EcoSystem health and conservation) is a 3 year world class joint doctoral programme in marine ecosystem health and conservation. It will be offered by a consortium of 11 full partners and 13 associated partners across 14 countries across Europe, including the University of Plymouth.

MARES will focus on 6 areas on marine science and applied field:
• Future oceans (focusing on temperature changes and acidification)
• Understanding biodiversity and its function in marine science
• Biological invasions
• Natural resources
• Ocean noise pollution
• Habitat loss

Professor Wendy Purcell, Vice Chancellor of the University of Plymouth, commented:
“The University of Plymouth is excited to be the only UK University to be selected as a full partner in the MARES programme. Our involvement in the programme through our University Marine Institute positions us at the centre of marine ecosystem health and conservation research and education in the UK and in Europe.”
