University of Plymouth to be only UK-based partner in European marine doctoral programme

MARES (MARine EcoSystem health and conservation) is a 3 year world class joint doctoral programme in marine ecosystem health and conservation. It will be offered by a consortium of 11 full partners and 13 associated partners across 14 countries across Europe, including the University of Plymouth.

MARES will focus on 6 areas on marine science and applied field:
• Future oceans (focusing on temperature changes and acidification)
• Understanding biodiversity and its function in marine science
• Biological invasions
• Natural resources
• Ocean noise pollution
• Habitat loss

Professor Wendy Purcell, Vice Chancellor of the University of Plymouth, commented:

Our involvement in the programme through our University Marine Institute positions us at the centre of marine ecosystem health and conservation research and education in the UK and in Europe.”
