Success for the South West in EU Comenius Regio Programme

The EU’s Comenius programme aims at developing knowledge and understanding of the cultural and linguistic diversity of Europe among young people and education staff. Comenius Regio is a recently launched initiative, aimed at providing a regional aspect to the programme by promoting cooperation between local and regional authorities, in order to improve educational services to young people. In the 2009 Comenius Regio call for proposals, 46 out of 53 projects from the UK have been successful for funding. Local authorities in the South West have done exceptionally well, with the following receiving funding from the EU:

• Bath and North Somerset Council Children’s Services
• Bournemouth Borough Council
• Cornwall County Council
• Devon Local Authority – Children and Young People’s Service
• Dorset County Council
• Gloucestershire County Council – International Education Office
