Somerset 'Do You Speak European' competition

On 13 November, Somerset County Council hosted its annual ‘Do You Speak European’ competition for local schools. This competition is an initiative from the Assembly of European Regions (AER) and is designed to give young people the opportunity to explore for themselves what it means to be a part of Europe. Schools can enter the competition with a group of up to 5 students using any chosen media or theme to present their proposals of ‘speaking European’. This year, 5 students from Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe won the competition with a thought provoking performance about the benefits of being a part of the European Union. They will now go on to compete in the UK national final, with a further chance of going on to the European final in Brussels, to be held in the spring of 2010.
