Royal Seal of Approval for Gloucester City’s Regeneration
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were greeted by thousands of people earlier this month as they toured Gloucester Docks, guided by Greg Smith, Chair of the Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company and its Chief Executive, Chris Oldershaw.
Chris said: “We are now half way into the ten-year regeneration of Gloucester and it was the ideal moment for The Queen to see the huge amount that has been achieved so far. "We were able to show the Queen the regeneration which has taken place so far in the Docks and Quays which she seemed quite taken by. She also spoke about Bakers Quay, which lies adjacent to the regenerated Gloucester Quays and yet to undergo its own regeneration, but we were able to advise her that a planning application for a £3 million leisure and residential scheme on the site has just been submitted”.
This work continued last week when an £11.2 million Government investment to dramatically improve the city’s public areas and streets between Gloucester City and Gloucester Quays, allowing the City Centre to reap the benefits of the Docks regeneration, was announced by the South West Regional Development Agency.
