RegenSW receives £2m investment
RegenSW, the region’s sustainable energy agency has received £2m in funding from the South West RDA (SWRDA) to help maintain its work across the region. The additional funding extends RegenSW’s funding by a further two years until March 2011 and brings the total amount invested in the organization by SWRDA to £5.3m. The cash injection will be used to develop a new business plan and identify methods of accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy in the South West. RegenSW works with regional businesses to increase their participation in this transition by unlocking sustainable energy opportunities, speeding up their uptake of renewable energy resources and championing initiatives that reduce energy demand. However their main priority is to assist the expansion of sustainable energy businesses in the region. With ambitious EU renewable targets for 2010, the impetus to improve energy efficiency is growing and is of particular importance to the South West as the sustainable energy sector worth over £500 million a year to the regional economy and supports over 7,200 jobs.
