Minister visits ESF project and Skills Centre South West
Jim Knight, the Minister for Employment and Welfare Reform and Regional Minister for the South West, visited in December the Skills Centre South West, a new facility based in central Bristol providing information and advice about training and jobs.
The Skills centre South West provides free support to businesses as well as training for local people to acquire the skills that employers need, focussing in particular on the sectors of retail, tourism, hospitality, transport and security.
As part of his visit the Minister had also a meeting with the students of Recruit & Train, an ESF project providing training courses on CV writing and interview techniques as well as support in job searches. As part of this project two week long employability courses are provided in the Security, Care, Retail, Hospitability and Administration sectors to people who are currently unemployed.
The Skills Centre South West Director commented that “We are delighted to welcome the Minister to Skills Centre South West and show him what we are doing to help local people and businesses. The centre opened in September and we are already having a very real impact by enabling people to access the kind of training and support that will help them move into sustainable local employment".
