Health-e-Child wins the ICT 2008 Exhibit Grand Prize
Health e-Child, a European project for clinical decision support and knowledge discovery in paediatrics diseases was awarded the Exhibit Grand Prize of the ICT 2008 Exhibition on the 27th November 2008.This biennial ICT event, organized by the Commission's Directorate General for the Information Society and Media is heralded as the most important forum for the discussion of research and public policy in ICT at a European level. The aim of Health e-Child is to build a Grid-enabled European network of leading clinical centres. These centres will share and annotate biomedical data, validate systems clinically, and diffuse clinical excellence across Europe by setting up new technologies, clinical workflows, and standards. IT experts at the University of the West of England (UWE) have been instrumental in the development of this project, with over €1.4m of the €12m budget for the project being allocated to UWE. The team at UWE were selected thanks to a previous success in a similar Grid-based project with the European Nuclear Research Centre at CERN, Geneva called MammoGrid where an integrated resource was designed to manage distributed information related to breast cancer.
