Hannover hosts Bristol’s 2018 bid team
Members of Bristol’s bid team for the 2018 Fifa World Cup visited Germany last week to discover first-hand how Bristol’s twin city of Hannover and the German city of Frankfurt benefited from hosting the World Cup in 2006. Both German cities hosted five World Cup games each in 2006.
The Lord Mayor of Hannover, Stefan Weil, hosted Bristol’s bid team during their visit to Hannover. While in Germany, the team learnt of the opportunities involved in being part of one of the world's biggest events, and of the vast potential economic benefits of being a host city, as well as the challenges the city might face. Issues discussed included the required transport infrastructure, the provision of hotels and accommodation for teams and visitors, the creation of fan zones, and collab
oration with the police on effective crowd control. For more information contact Michele.
