Gloucestershire County Council recently awarded a Youth in Action grant

Gloucestershire County Council has recently been awarded a Youth in Action grant for the ‘Beyond the Olympics - inspiration through aspiration’ project. The objectives of the project are to broaden young people's knowledge of Europe and train up a new generation of leaders to have the knowledge and confidence to develop new projects and inspire more young people through the 2010s. A gathering of workers from each partner country will be held in late autumn 2010 to plan the bigger project and develop themes. Following this, there will be training in the specific sports in spring 2011 aimed at young people who will run sessions with younger people in their local communities in 2011 and 2012. The activities will culminate in August 2012 with a gathering of young people in Gloucestershire from partner countries to coincide with the London Olympics. The venue will be the Wilderness Centre in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. Participants will include 30 from partner countries with 10 young people from Gloucestershire and training events for the Youth initiatives will be held in Gloucestershire and possibly Gottingen, Germany.
