Future of Rural Culture

On 13 November 2009, a conference to discuss the Future of Rural Culture is being held in Falmouth, Cornwall. The event is part of the European Regions of Culture campaign, an initiative led by Cornwall Council for establishing a new award on culture for rural regions, the European Regions of Culture (EROC). Keynote speakers will include Ann Branch, head of unit at the European Commission, DG Education and Culture, and Shelagh Wright from Demos, a London based think thank. While European Capitals of Culture scheme celebrates urban living within Europe, the EROC initiative aims to establish a prize that recognizes the role played by rural regions and their communities in developing Europe’s cultural richness and diversity. The event will gather representatives from other rural regions to exchange experiences and debate on how culture in rural European regions can be successfully celebrated. For more info- Michele.
