French delegation from Finistere, Brittany, visits Cornwall
Cornwall Council has recently hosted a visit from Finistere to further develop the protocol of co-operation between the two areas. Cornwall Council works in partnership with Finistere looking at issues such as sustaining economic development and maintaining regional identity.
Cllr Carolyn Rule, cabinet member for the Economy and Regeneration, said: “We have a lot in common with the General Council of Finistere in terms of the challenges we face and it was great to meet up with our opposite numbers.
“We looked at a whole range of issues and learned from each other about enhancing the quality of life of residents and achieving the highest quality of local government.”
The French delegation was involved in a series of meetings with councillors and was also given a presentation on Cornwall’s current bid to be the European Region of Culture in 2014.
The visit comes at the end of the contract of Nolwenn Baot, Cornwall – Finistere Co-operation Officer. A new co-operation Officer, Aline Chever will begin work in Cornwall this month (October) for two years.
