ESF support helps Plymouth man win top award

A Sport’s Leadership course delivered by the YMCA in Plymouth has led to eighteen year old Tony Harris from Plymouth being crowned the country’s top Sports Leader and winning an all expenses paid scholarship to continue his studies in the United States.

The national Sports Leadership competition, hosted by four former Olympians, took place in Milton Keynes in early July and involved around 300 competitors who were challenged to complete a variety of tasks. Not only did Tony win the individual award but the Plymouth team was victorious in the team section.

The YMCA’s course in Plymouth is part of the NewLeaf initiative which is funded by the Learning Skills Council (LSC) through the European Social Fund (ESF). The ESF is the European Union’s main financial instrument for investing in people, supporting employment and helping people enhance their education and skills.
