Devon wins South West Green Energy Award

Renewable Energy for Devon (RE4D), a project run by Devon County Council, has won a top prize in the prestigious South West Green Energy Awards ceremony. Organised by Regen South West, the awards’ aim is to showcase the very best in technologies and projects which make use of renewable energy sources. This includes the work from local authorities, community groups, individuals and renewable energy companies.

Devon County Council, was recognised as the 'Most Pro-active Local Authority' thanks to the work of RE4D and its other activities to reduce carbon emissions. RE4D encourages the growth of the renewable energy industry in Devon by supporting individuals and organizations who want to install renewable energy technology. In addition to winning the a South West Green Energy Award, RE4D was also the winner of a national Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy, earlier in the year.

Some examples of RE4Ds work includes:

  • Free training for over 90 renewable energy supplier places and the creation of 90 new jobs in the renewable energy sector
  • £4.2M in energy savings for organisations installing renewable energy technologies
  • Carbon emission savings of 1695 tonnes per year
  • £210k in capital grants awarded to 22 organisations in 2009.
