Courses on future rural development under the CAP

Two courses offered by the Countryside and Community Research Institute (CCRI), a partnership between the University of the West of England, Hartpury College and the University of Gloucestershire, are available this spring.
 

  • Understanding European rural policy and programmes: the future of rural development under the CAP: Cheltenham - 21 April 2010

A general introduction to the Rural Development policies of the EU and how they have been developed in the UK, in comparison to other EU countries. Participants will gain an understanding of the history and context for the current RD programmes as well as details about what they contain, and what kinds of policy outcomes they are seeking. It will also provide an overview of the longer term significance of this element of EU policy and funding, and what is likely to happen to it, in future, after 2013.
 

  • New perspectives on managing shared resources – exploring collective action from the local to the global : Cheltenham – 14 April 2010

An exploration of the concept of shared resources or ‘resources held in common’, where the property and access rights are not entirely in private ownership, or the use and management of the resource is shared in some manner. Shared resources can be found at global as well as local levels and include public open space, landscape, community land trusts, marine fisheries, and the global atmosphere.
