Christchurch to host International Games of Friendship

Christchurch will host the International Games of Friendship at the Avon Tyrrell Youth Centre in Bransgore from 12 to 16 April 2010 as part of an EU funded town twinning project. Christchurch has been awarded €20,324 from the European Commission, following a bid that was made by Christchurch Council for funding under the Europe for Citizens programme. This scheme brings together people from local communities across Europe to share and exchange experiences, opinions, values and build for the future. The funding adds to money which has already been secured by Christchurch Borough Council, Christchurch & District Sports Council, Christchurch Community Partnership and Christchurch Rotary.

The games, which are for young people between 14 and 16, take place every two years in one of a number of countries twinned with each other. Towns in France, Germany, Hungary, Belgium and Poland will send a team of ten girls and ten boys to take part in swimming, running, football, unihockey and other fun events at the games.
