Bristol GREEN ADDICT

Bristol City Council’s Green Addict website has been shortlisted by the European Commission for the Best ICT for Energy Efficiency Project Award only one month after its launch. Bristol is leading the way in Europe with its innovative work on the Green ICT agenda. Connecting Bristol, Bristol City Council’s Digital Partnership, has launched the site Green AddICT, a site aiming to share expertise and know-how on the use of ICT to reduce carbon emissions. The www.greenaddict.eu website is a result of an innovative study to calculate the carbon footprint of business use of ICT in Bristol and to enhance a Gree ICT solutions database. The study revealed that Bristol spends around £11 million per year in energy costs derived from business use of ICT and the consequent production of over 67,000 tonnes of CO2. The project will support Bristol’s commitment to achieving its carbon reduction targets to reduce by 34% by 2020 and 80% by 2050.

We encourage all to vote for Bristol before December 31st 2009. The prize money of €20,000 will be reinvested in Green ICT for the city.
