Employment & Social Affairs
The South West Regional Skills Partnership unites the entire business and learning community to create a demand-led approach to tackle the challenges and priorities of the South West skills base. They put employers at the centre stage in determining the skills needed to achieve a productive economy, whilst helping individuals to gain the skills they need to be employed in the region.
Overall, the South West has a health labour market with priority sectors, but there is still a need to improve literacy and numeracy and to solve the problem of a net outflow of young people and graduates. Furthermore, the South West Regional Assembly is fully committed and involved in the establishment of Equality South West, an organisation that helps improve the social and economic life of the South West for everyone. Equality South West are dedicated to promoting equality and diversity throughout the Region and are working with partners to tackle discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, faith, gender, race and sexual orientation.
The European Social Fund and the Community Programme for Employment and Social Solidarity will therefore be of importance to fulfilling the employment and social objectives in the Region.
